20 min read Are you always on the go? Do you often miss important weather updates, events in the locality, or other news? Then, fear not! We are here to provide you with a solution. November 28, 2024 12:56 Summarize News Articles on the Go with the Summarizer App

Summarizers are AI-powered tools that shrink input text for easy readability. They are great for students, researchers, and academic professionals who want to learn more stuff but with the least time and effort.

Besides academia, general users can also utilize these tools to condense news articles and learn about finance, celebrity drama, weather updates, politics, sports exclusives, etc., in just a few seconds.

In this post, we will walk you through an app on your mobile phone that can easily summarize news articles for comfortable learning. This way you will quickly understand the things that you’re missing in seconds! So, let’s get started.

Meet the Summarizer App

The summarizer app is a solid addition to your Android and iOS smartphone. Not only does it allow unlimited, free summaries for news articles, blogs, reports, etc. But the application is also very easy to use and handle for all kinds of users.

It also provides other content optimization and generation tools like the paraphrase tool, conclusion generator, story generator, and essay writer. However, these are not the scope of our discussion at the moment so we won’t get into their details this time.

Summarizing Articles on the Go

To get an easy read of news articles on the go, tap on the ‘AI Summarizer’ option to open up the respective tool.

Here, you can either upload a file from your mobile device or copy-paste the news article from elsewhere. As a demonstration, we will pick a news report from BBC News UK about mortgage rises and use the default ‘Summarizer’ mode for the task.

Click on the blue ‘Summarize’ button to get started.

The original publication went from 863 words to only 165 words to make it a quick read. This shows that the app is indeed working and fully functional.

You can go further below this word count by adjusting the output length to less than 20%. However, for now, we just wanted to demonstrate the tool on default settings.

But, wait! This test can be untrue. It can be a one-off event that the summarizer works without any problems. So, let’s try another news article about Football from NDTV and see if the app fails or not.

This time around, we will use a summary length of 40% to test out the tool’s functionality in a different fashion.

As expected, we got slightly more words than the previous article’s output as the length was changed from 20 to 40%. With that said, the summary was succinct enough to quickly understand the key events that unfolded in the Barcelona match.

Is the Summarizer App Worth it?

To answer this question, completely, we will quickly round up some other features from the app and then see its downsides.

Besides the plain ‘Summarizer’ mode, the app also comes with an ‘AI Summarizer’ mode that automatically adjusts the output length according to the input text. However, this option is paid-only.

Other than the core functionality, there are some other interesting features in the app, too, like the ‘Bullets’ and ‘Best Line’ options.

The former arranges all the thoughts one by one to understand the logical development of thoughts in a text. The latter gives a one-liner summary of the text to get to the main point of the news article.

Both options are very useful for learning news on the go, allowing you to stay in touch with recent updates with minimal reading efforts.

After reviewing all the features of the summarizer app on offer, it is time to jot down its pros and cons, and the price at which it’s available for purchase.

Pros

Below are the benefits that we found with the Summarizer app:

Highly accurate: Through our testing, we can attest to the functionality of this app and that its outputs are highly readable and understandable.

Low Storage Size: The Summarizer app only takes around 40MB of storage on your mobile device. This is very nominal given the other competitors.

Multiple Features: You can change the output length, and switch between the Best Line and Bullets feature to further elevate your understanding of the news.

Save the Output as PDF: There is also an option to download the summarized articles as a PDF for comfortable viewing and sharing.

Cons

While it was important to highlight the upsides of the Summarizer app, it would be unfair if we didn’t let you know about its possible downsides.

An Internet Connection is Mandatory: There is no way to use the application offline. This can be a huge downside for anyone who is not able to get access to a stable connection while traveling.

Free Version Has Ads: Not just ads, but a lot of them! This might be a turn-off for many users.

Only 500 Words per Submission: The free version only allows 500 words per try, which might be too little to learn the nitty gritty of lengthy articles.

Final Verdict

Even though there are caveats with the Summarizer app, we still think it is a solid option to learn news articles on the go. The main attractive features are its high-dependability giving perfectly readable outputs, a simplistic UI, and fast response time.

The downsides include a must-requirement for an internet connection, too many ads, and a 500-word limit in the free version.

This word limit restriction could have been increased to 1000 words instead. But, who are we to complain, aye?
