Slowly and slyly in-display fingerprint phones are showing their nailing attitude by grabbing a significant portion of the total market share day by day. It has been stated that in-display fingerprint technology has taken more than 43.9% of the total market share in 2021. The exciting fact is, the same source has estimated that within 2022 the percentage will be increased by 50.3%.
Whatever the number is, these data clearly indicate, people are getting more addicted to this fascinating tech instead of using physical fingerprint scanners. But the question is, is it necessary to spend more bucks for getting an under-display fingerprint sensor? If yes, then what value can it add where the physical sensor can’t provide?
No worries! You and I, both together will inspect this and find the appropriate answer to this mysterious question. And after that, I will provide you the models of 10 best smartphones, that holds under-display fingerprint scanner. Before deep-diving into this, let’s have an initial breakdown discussion regarding fingerprint sensors.
Well! From different angles, the classifications of fingerprint sensors are different. For example, considering the placement perspective, there are three types of fingerprint scanners.
This is not the end! Many people search for the real fingerprint lock screen download link to make their phone fingerprint enabled! But in most cases, those tricks don’t work in real life.
Considering the working principle, fingerprint sensors have some other classifications. I will not explore all of these and make you bored. Instead, I want to mention the classification of In-display fingerprint scanners, which is part of our discussion today.
From the technical perspective, there are two types of in-display fingerprint sensors.
In this sensor, there exists a telephoto lens attached to the in-display fingerprint phones. When the user puts his finger on the screen, the lens takes a photo of his thumb and tries to match it with the previously registered image. If it matches, the phone gets unlocked. But in some other cases, there exists no camera lens under the display to capture the image of your finger. The smartphone screen itself does the task on its own. But in that case, the display must have to be Super AMOLED.
Now many in-display fingerprint phones are using this tech. This sensor doesn’t have any telephoto lens or not capable of taking photos. Instead, the sensor under the glass can produce an ultra-frequency sound wave when you place your finger over the fingerprint area of the display. The sound wave will hit your finger and then will go back to the sensor. The sensor analyses the returned and distorted frequency. After the proper analysis of the distorted part, the sensor unlocks the phone.
Well, you have got a basic idea regarding the working principle of fingerprint scanners, and it’s classification. Now the question that appears in your mind is, which fingerprint technology is suitable for me?
In this case, I want to state some facts that will help you to get a clear understanding of this.
The rear-mounted and side-mounted scanners are made based on the same technology. The difference between these two is, side-mounted scanners are attached with the power button. That’s it! There no other differences.
in-display fingerprint phones were slow-performing at their initial stage, but today these are significantly fast responsive. But compared to the performance of the optical scanner, the ultrasonic one is way faster.
So the fair verdict regarding the fingerprint scanner should be; it totally depends on your user preference. If you like side-mounted, go and grab it.
But If you are a big fan of in-glass scanners, then check out the following list where I’m going to mention, which smartphone will help you enjoy a decent gaming experience and camera performance.
Well, this question is tricky! I know there are so many Jio phone lovers in the Indian market who are eagerly waiting for Jio Phone 3. But according to the leaked information from multiple reliable sources, this phone will not be part of the family of in-display fingerprint phones.
The result- people are searching for an app, that can allow them to unlock their phone using their thumb. And you will find many apps floating on the internet, claiming themselves capable of doing so.
But as per our testing result, no apps can provide you to enjoy the facility of an under-display fingerprint scanner. So don’t rush to download such apps and install these on your phone.
You can use face unlock instead, that will not harm your device at least.
As you are still reading this discussion, I’m pretty sure that you are a big fan of in-glass fingerprint phones. Well! If so, I should mention some names of such smartphones that have in-glass fingerprint scanners. In most cases, the 8GB RAM smartphones hold an in-display fingerprint scanner facility. In the middle of 2023, there are too many in-display fingerprints-enabled phones have been released in the market.
The names of the in-display fingerprint phones I am goint to mention are still good, considering the price range and performance. And all these are available with around 15000Rs price tag. Let’s have a look!
Realme 8 came in the market on 24th March 2023 with the title DARE TO LEAP written on its back panel. This back panel is made with a mix of plastic and glass material. In the case of such build, I personally say, GLASSTIC MATERIAL. I know some will love this design language, and some won’t. If you don’t like this visible thing, you can choose the black version where the title is less visible.
In specs, Realme 8 came with a Mediatek Helio G95 processor, renowned as one of the best performing gaming processors considering the budget segment. To support the SOC Mali G-76 MC4 GPU is attached to its motherboard. And you are getting 4-8 GB of RAM in different variants. If you can consider the 14999Rs price tag, then you can get the 8 GB RAM variant. And the ROM will be 128GB.
Considering all of that, this phone is one of the best in-display fingerprint phones.

Surprisingly, the spec of this phone is almost similar to the Realme X7 Max. So don’t get confused while making your purchase decision. This is one of the best in-display fingerprint phones that is powered by a Mediatek Dimensity 1200 processor. There was a time when Mediatek processors were used in low-budget smartphones. But now Mediatek has started to show its nailing attitude in terms of performing by introducing their Dimensity series and ready to join the head-to-head competition with Snapdragon.
Though the phone supports 50W fast charging, you will get a 65W fast charger in the box to charge up your battery super fast. To provide an improved gaming experience, the Mali-G77 MC9 GPU has been attached to the SOC. The combination of both will provide you 360Hz touch sampling rate and a 120 Hz fast refresh rate that is enough to lift your excitement to the next level while gaming. It’s an open reality that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors are famous for providing consistent good performance for a long time. But for the past several years, Mediatek has been trying to build such processors that can compete with Snapdragon. Especially by introducing the Dimensity series Mediatek has shown its new dominance over the industry.
Realme X7 came in the market with the processor Mediatek Dimensity 800U 5G with an aggressive price range. As the chip is 5G enabled, you can enjoy the 5G speed and VOLTE support. And yes, this phone is one of the best in-display fingerprint phones which is fast enough to be unlocked. There are very few in-display fingerprint phones that came in the market with a dual selfie camera setup. Oppo F17 Pro has come to the market with the same setup. One of the lenses is a 16MP wide-angle shooter, and the other is a depth sensor.
Oppo was always focused on making camera-centric smartphones with good-looking, attractive design language. And for this particular device, oppo could retain the same vibe. The performance of the selfie camera is good in both daylight and night condition. The same goes for the quad-camera setup located at the rear panel.

There exist some VIVO fingerprint mobiles under 10000 Rs as well. But considering the performances, these are not good.

The phones whose back is plastic finished always feel cheap, especially for the in-display fingerprint phones. But VIVO V20 SE is an exception in this case. Though the back of this phone is plastic finished, you can barely feel it. At first glance, the phone feels glass finished. And in most cases, this matter is factual.
In around 19,990 Rs price tag, you are getting Snapdragon 665 11nm processor that is less power consuming. Adreno 610 GPU is present to perform the graphics rendering tasks while gaming. The triple camera setup can also provide decent-quality photos, especially in beauty mode. And the in-display fingerprint scanner is blazing fast.

As I said before, Oppo and VIVO are such brands that are more focused on introducing smartphones that are camera and elegant design-focused. But for this particular model, VIVO has shown that they are the game changer!
VIVO Y73s could run PUBG with almost zero lag and frame-drop in high graphics setting in the real-life experiment. Call of duty mobile was playable in high settings as well. But the camera performance seemed average in real-life testing. But the performance in night mode is good.
The in-display optical sensor is included in the phone which is fast enough. But the animation-delay is noticeable. Hopefully, VIVO will fix it in the next software update.

I know, the list of the “10 best in-display fingerprint phones” that I have made above, are not the best at all from all the perspectives in the present market. The reason behind this is, every single day, a significant number of smartphones are released. So it’s a tough job to make the list of ultimate phones. And the truth is, there is no ultimate phone! That’s why I picked up some particular models that are in the 20,000Rs price range and that all hold decent quality fingerprint scanners.
So, which particular phone do you like most from the list?
